At Edgebury Primary School, we believe that excellent teaching begins with high expectations, strong relationships and a clear understanding of how children learn.

Our aim is to create classrooms where children feel safe to contribute, confident to ask questions and motivated to challenge themselves. We want learning to be purposeful, engaging and ambitious, enabling every child to build knowledge, develop skills and experience the satisfaction that comes from making progress.
Our Approach to Learning

Across the school, teaching is designed to:

develop secure knowledge, skills and understanding;

introduce and reinforce rich, subject-specific vocabulary;

provide appropriate support and challenge;

encourage children to think, question, explain and make connections;

help children become increasingly independent and reflective learners.
Teachers use their knowledge of each child alongside ongoing assessment to understand what pupils have learned, identify where further support may be needed and plan the next steps in learning.

High Expectations for Every Child

We recognise that children learn in different ways and at different rates. Teaching is adapted where appropriate so that pupils can access learning, while maintaining high expectations for all.
We want children to understand that challenge is an important part of learning: that mistakes help us grow, perseverance matters and achievement comes in many forms.

Developing Our Practice

Teaching and learning at Edgebury continues to evolve. Our staff work collaboratively to reflect on practice, develop subject knowledge and ensure that the learning experiences we provide remain ambitious, inclusive and engaging.
As a school, we are committed to continually reviewing and developing our approach so that every child receives the strongest possible foundations for the next stage of their education.
