Attendance & Punctuality: Every Day Counts

Regular attendance and good punctuality are essential to children’s learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging. Being in school every day helps children to keep up with their learning, build strong friendships and feel settled and confident within the school community.

At Edgebury, we want every child to benefit fully from the opportunities school provides. We work in partnership with parents and carers to promote good attendance and to offer support when difficulties arise.

Attendance &
Punctuality

When your child is unable to attend school, please contact the school office on the first morning of absence:

Telephone: 020 8467 4199
Email: admin@edgebury.bromley.sch.uk

Please provide your child’s name, class and the reason for their absence. If we have not heard from you, a member of staff will contact you as part of our safeguarding procedures.

Not sure whether your child is well enough to attend? Please refer to the NHS guidance, Is my child too ill for school?  Children who have experienced vomiting or diarrhoea should remain at home until at least 48 hours after the last episode

Arriving on Time

The school doors open at 8.45am, and the school day begins at 8.55am. Registers are taken promptly at 9am. Children who arrive at school after 9am must be brought directly to the school office by their accompanying adult and signed in.

Arriving on time allows children to begin the day calmly alongside their classmates. Late arrival can mean missing important instructions and can disrupt learning for both the child and the rest of the class.

Attendance Concerns

A pupil who misses 10% or more of school sessions is considered persistently absent. This is equivalent to attendance of 90% or below and represents approximately four weeks of missed education across a school year.  We monitor attendance and punctuality carefully. Where concerns arise, we will contact families promptly so that we can understand any difficulties and work together to improve attendance.

Leave During Term Time

Headteachers may authorise leave during term time only in exceptional circumstances. Family holidays will not normally be authorised, and unauthorised absence may result in further action in line with national guidance and the London Borough of Bromley’s procedures. Please speak to the school before making plans that would require your child to miss school.

We Are Here to Help

We understand that some children and families experience genuine barriers to regular attendance. Please contact the school as early as possible if you are having difficulties. Working together, we can help every child feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
